Matsushita to liquidate Indian air-conditioning operations
Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (MC) plans to liquidate its Matsushita Air-Conditioning India Private Ltd. unit, citing a sales decline from consumers' shift to wall-mounted air conditioners from window-mounted units.
The Japanese consumer-electronics company said it has been phasing out operations at the Indian unit for years and in effect doesn't operate the business now.
Matsushita will focus on wall-mounted air conditioners in India in the future.
The unit to be liquidated recorded no sales in the fiscal year ended March and incurred a loss of INR176 million.
